In the wake of WikiLeaks' release of nearly 92,000 classified documents painting a bleak picture of the war in Afghanistan, Congress is poised to provide the Pentagon with another $33 billion for war. But as one veteran Member of Congress recently told us, not one of the briefings he's had on Afghanistan ever reflected the grim portrayal of the war revealed by these documents. Like the September 2007 Civil Affairs Report that, in the view of the Paktya Provincial Council, “The people of Afghanistan keep loosing [sic] their trust in the government because of the high amount of corrupted government officials. The general view of the Afghans is that the current government is worst [sic] than the Taliban." It is unconscionable to send American men and women to Afghanistan to risk their lives to prop up the corrupt Karzai regime. Act now and tell Congress to vote no on the supplemental war funding.
