“The time for action grows near. Congressional leaders should seriously consider a resolution authorizing use of force…” - Bill Kristol – August 2002
“It’s time for Congress to seriously explore an Authorization of Military Force to halt Iran’s nuclear program.” - Bill Kristol – June 2012
Remember Kristol’s FIRST call for Congress to authorize the use of military force? Remember where it led? Now he is making a SECOND call – this time for an attack on Iran. He did so only last week.
Déjà-Vu all over again?
Not If we can help it! BUT, given what we know about Kristol and his Neo-Con army (now filling key rolls in the Romney Presidential campaign) we have got to act NOW and act FAST!
We know that Members of Congress are hearing from special interest groups demanding that Congress authorize an attack on Iran.
NOW THEY NEED TO HEAR FROM THE REST OF US!
Tell Congress: We must not go to war with Iran!
We’ve heard the call before and we know where it ends – Many thousands of Americans killed and tens of thousands wounded. It ends with trillions of dollars wasted ($4-6 trillion according to Nobel Laureate Economist Joe Stiglitz by the time we finish paying) – every dime of it on the nation’s credit card. It ends with the American people learning that we were lied to and dragged into a war that never had to happen.
Tell Congress: We cannot afford another unnecessary war of choice!
We cannot simply dismiss these calls for war believing that no one in their right mind would think this was a good idea. Earlier this year Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell declared that he was ready to introduce the very authorization for war with Iran that hawks are now calling for. Now powerful and influential forces are mustering to support him. And, just like 2002, the heat of election year politics can scare Congress into passing a dangerous authorization and simply hoping that it won’t be used.
In his new book Senator Russ Feingold describes how, in 2002, Congress failed to prevent the political push for war. As the New York Times relays, “with the 2002 election imminent, many Democrats decided they could not take the political risk of a vote against the war."
We must not allow that to happen again, and that’s why your Senator needs to hear from you now!
Please do it now – the stakes are too high NOT to.
